Commonwealth Bank Place at Darling Quarter is a building aiming to demonstrate world-class sustainability and innovative engineering, including the use of sound masking throughout its two 8-storey buildings to aid in speech privacy and personal focus of all employees. The product is designed to meet a 5 Star NABERS energy rating.
Commonwealth Bank has worked with its design partners to take comfort and wellbeing of their employees very seriously. Polyvox has worked with Shape (Head Contractor), Stantec Engineers (Acoustics) and other project stakeholders to provide an effective sound masking system design, that complements the open atrium and glazed design of the buildings. True engineering prowess needs to be demonstrated when utilising a clear West facing glazed facade and such an open Atrium design, and Acoustics becomes more critical the more glass we use, and the more open a space is. Polyvox installed the LogiSon Acoustic Network throughout the two buildings of Commonwealth Bank Place over a three year build period.
The system creates a uniform ambient noise level across the floors- whether you are along the facade next to the highway, or 8 floors up in an enclosed room! A conditioned acoustic environment is provided, as well as providing the occupants with a comfortable workplace by minimising distractions and intrusive sounds. It is especially effective in the vast open-plan areas where other acoustic treatments are limited, and speech privacy relies mainly on ambient noise levels.
The LogiSon Acoustic Network replaced the existing base build sound masking system which was dated and not performing. The improved system provides higher levels of performance, accuracy and zoning capabilities. The new system designed and installed by Polyvox presents state-of-the-art performance, supplementing the acoustic design of the spaces, and ensuring the client gets the most out of their space, and does right by their most important asset- their employees.
The conditioned spaces included private offices, open plan working areas, and several meeting and training rooms- including a vast Atrium void through the center of the building. The sound masking system was carefully tuned to bring the background noise levels to the levels required in the Australian Standard AS/NZS 2107:2016, providing an engineered level that aids in masking speech and other distracting noises.
